[Pkg-xen-devel] Bug#901599: WARNING: no console will be available to OS
Package: xen-system-amd64 Version: 4.8.3+xsa262+shim4.10.0+comet3-1+deb9u7 Severity: minor I have installed Debian 9.4 Stretch (stable) with Xen Hypervisor 4.8 on a NUMA machine with two AMD Epyc processors. The machine is booting in UEFI mode. This warning message appears after Grub2, when booting the hypervisor kernel. When booting the default Debian kernel, this warning does not appear. I found a hint that when booting Grub2 in UEFI mode the video fields in the multiboot header must be set correctly. https://forum.osdev.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=28429 -- System Information: Debian Release: 9.4 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 4.9.0-6-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages xen-system-amd64 depends on: ii xen-hypervisor-4.8-amd64 4.8.3+xsa262+shim4.10.0+comet3-1+deb9u7 ii xen-utils-4.8 4.8.3+xsa262+shim4.10.0+comet3-1+deb9u7 xen-system-amd64 recommends no packages. xen-system-amd64 suggests no packages. -- no debconf information
Confirmed that this happens here as well. Very little console output is displayed after this point, but at least the standard login prompt on tty1 is shown after the boot process completes. -- GigaTux Customer Service info at gigatux.com www.gigatux.com
