Couldn''t it be that at some point in the past (where the user kimon even did not exist) the adm entry looked like this?: adm:x:4:logcheck: When the user kimon then was added he would have been appended directly behind the colon. regards kimon
user adduser@packages.debian.org usertags #335894 close-20051130 thanks On Thu, Oct 27, 2005 at 09:53:49PM +0200, Kimon Gazis wrote:> Couldn''t it be that at some point in the past (where the user kimon even > did not exist) the adm entry looked like this?: > > adm:x:4:logcheck: > > When the user kimon then was added he would have been appended directly > behind the colon. No, with that (invalid) /etc/group file, something differently odd happens. Adduser uses gpasswd to set the new group members, and gpasswd doesn''t accept ":" in a command line: $ sudo gpasswd -M Debian-console-log:Debian-exim adm gpasswd: unknown user Debian-console-log:Debian-exim I am getting the impression that this bug cannot be adduser''s fault. I will therefore close this bug by 2005-11-30 if it remains unreproducible by then. Hi, OK with the close as I don''t have any more input on this. Obviously some other package or script may have corrupted my group-file. best regards kimon Marc Haber wrote:>user adduser@packages.debian.org >usertags #335894 close-20051130 >thanks > >On Thu, Oct 27, 2005 at 09:53:49PM +0200, Kimon Gazis wrote: > > >>Couldn''t it be that at some point in the past (where the user kimon even >>did not exist) the adm entry looked like this?: >> >>adm:x:4:logcheck: >> >>When the user kimon then was added he would have been appended directly >>behind the colon. >> >> > >No, with that (invalid) /etc/group file, something differently odd >happens. > >Adduser uses gpasswd to set the new group members, and gpasswd doesn''t >accept ":" in a command line: >$ sudo gpasswd -M Debian-console-log:Debian-exim adm >gpasswd: unknown user Debian-console-log:Debian-exim > >I am getting the impression that this bug cannot be adduser''s fault.
