However, if /home/foo exists with inappropriate permissions, an X login will be impossible. Please give some kind of warning/info about the situation from adduser. (The old directory was for me a leftover from earlier adduser foo and deluser foo with an adduser bar in between). /Micce -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux zodiac 2.4.19 #1 mån aug 26 20:10:23 CEST 2002 i686 Locale: LANG=sv_SE.ISO-8859-1, LC_CTYPE=sv_SE.ISO-8859-1 Versions of packages adduser depends on: ii debconf 1.1.28 Debian configuration management sy ii passwd 20000902-12 Change and administer password and ii perl-base 5.8.0-10 The Pathologically Eclectic Rubbis -- debconf information: * adduser/homedir-permission: true --------------------------------------- Received: (at 159345-done) by bugs.debian.org; 5 Oct 2005 09:24:45 +0000>From mh+debian-packages@zugschlus.de Wed Oct 05 02:24:45 2005Return-path: <mh+debian-packages@zugschlus.de> Received: from 5301d.unt0.torres.l21.ma.zugschlus.de (torres.zugschlus.de) [217.151.83.1] (Debian-exim) by spohr.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.36 1 (Debian)) id 1EN5W0-0003Lo-00; Wed, 05 Oct 2005 02:24:45 -0700 Received: from lefler.int.l21.ma.zugschlus.de ([192.168.130.38]) by torres.zugschlus.de with esmtps (TLS-1.0:RSA_AES_256_CBC_SHA:32) (Exim 4.54) id 1EN5Vy-0006l7-24; Wed, 05 Oct 2005 11:24:43 +0200 Received: from mh by lefler.int.l21.ma.zugschlus.de with local (Exim 4.53) id 1EN5Vx-0004Bl-OF; Wed, 05 Oct 2005 11:24:41 +0200 Date: Wed, 5 Oct 2005 11:24:41 +0200 From: Marc Haber <mh+debian-packages@zugschlus.de> To: Mikael Hedin <micce@debian.org>, 159345-done@bugs.debian.org, 159345-submitter@bugs.debian.org Cc: Marc Haber <mh+debian-packages@zugschlus.de> Subject: Re: Bug#159345: adduser: Please warn if unwritable homedir exists Message-ID: <20051005092441.GA16097@lefler.int.l21.ma.zugschlus.de> References: <E17lvdB-00009K-00@zodiac.debian.net> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit In-Reply-To: <E17lvdB-00009K-00@zodiac.debian.net> User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.11 X-Spam-Score: (-----) -5.9 Delivered-To: 159345-done@bugs.debian.org X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-bugs.debian.org_2005_01_02 (1.212-2003-09-23-exp) on spohr.debian.org X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-6.0 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_00,HAS_BUG_NUMBER autolearn=no version=2.60-bugs.debian.org_2005_01_02 X-CrossAssassin-Score: 2 Version: 3.70 On Mon, Sep 02, 2002 at 08:08:57PM +0200, Mikael Hedin wrote:> If I run ''adduser foo'' and /home/foo already exists, nothing is done > about the directory.
