[FR-users] FreeRIDE 0.6.0 Debian packages for sid (unstable)
I have packaged FreeRIDE 0.6.0 and all its associated dependencies (libripper-ruby, libfox-ruby, libfxscintilla1) for Debian unstable (sid). I have only tested them in my own machine so I would like to get some feedback before the actual release. Note that I do not expect any major problem with the packages, since they are similar to the ones I made for 0.5.0 which AFAIK just worked fine. If you have a couple minutes plus the time it takes to download up to 3MB (depending on the packages you have already), you might want to give them a try. Please report any problems/success stories. Short story ========== This should work on sid. It _might_ work on woody or sarge if you drag some dependencies from unstable (keep in mind there''s the additional problem of the ABI -- these packages assume version 102). cat >> /etc/apt/sources.list # FreeRIDE deb http://freeride.rubyforge.org/debian/ deb/ deb-src http://freeride.rubyforge.org/debian/ src/ ^D apt-get update apt-get install freeride and run it as $ freeride Rebuilding architecture-dependent packages ========================================= There''s good chances this will work on woody or sarge, too. cat >> /etc/apt/sources.list # FreeRIDE deb http://freeride.rubyforge.org/debian/ deb/ deb-src http://freeride.rubyforge.org/debian/ src/ ^D apt-get update apt-get install apt-build apt-build install freeride -- _ _ | |__ __ _| |_ ___ _ __ ___ __ _ _ __ | ''_ \ / _` | __/ __| ''_ ` _ \ / _` | ''_ \ | |_) | (_| | |_\__ \ | | | | | (_| | | | | |_.__/ \__,_|\__|___/_| |_| |_|\__,_|_| |_| Running Debian GNU/Linux Sid (unstable) batsman dot geo at yahoo dot com (It is an old Debian tradition to leave at least twice a year ...) -- Sven Rudolph

I believe apt-get should still work, though... (did for me). If you want some info about the repository you could read http://freeride.rubyforge.org/debian/deb/Packages and http://freeride.rubyforge.org/debian/src/Sources They include the names of all the files in the repository, but I don''t see why you would need that... you are using apt-get anyway, aren''t you ;) ? (Specifically, don''t complain about dependencies if you dpkg -i by hand ;-)) Was everything OK for you otherwise? Any problem with dependencies, freeride not running, whatever? If we get a couple more success stories I guess the next step would be announcing the release at ruby-talk. -- _ _ | |__ __ _| |_ ___ _ __ ___ __ _ _ __ | ''_ \ / _` | __/ __| ''_ ` _ \ / _` | ''_ \ | |_) | (_| | |_\__ \ | | | | | (_| | | | | |_.__/ \__,_|\__|___/_| |_| |_|\__,_|_| |_| Running Debian GNU/Linux Sid (unstable) batsman dot geo at yahoo dot com Because I don''t need to worry about finances I can ignore Microsoft and take over the (computing) world from the grassroots. -- Linus Torvalds
