Ref: 14/F/04 Scientific computing systems administrator - IMPPC - Badalona, Spain Job Overview We are seeking a Linux systems administrator who will be responsible for the management of a scientific computing facility that includes a 100 core cluster, several servers, workstations, 96 Tb raw disk storage and backup facilities, to provide support to bioinformatics researchers at the Institute of Predictive and Personalized Medicine of Cancer (IMPPC). The IMPPC (http://www.imppc.org) is a non-profit research center located at the Can Ruti Biomedical Campus, Badalona, near Barcelona, Spain, with young and dynamic staff. Bioinformatics and in particular Genomics is an area of research shared between nearly all current IMPPC research groups that use the computer cluster on a regular basis. Besides fulfilling the system administrator duties listed below, the successful candidate will help to oversee and coordinate the expansion of the scientific computing facility to provide service to other institutions in the immediate surroundings under the umbrella of Institut Germans Trias i Pujol (IGTP), a biomedical research center of excellence recognized by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III of the Spanish Ministry of Health, and of Institut Josep Carreras, a new center for leukemia research, also located in the Can Ruti Biomedical Campus. Duties of the candidate: 1. Operating system installation and maintenance (Linux, currently Fedora) 2. Control of user access 3. System monitoring 4. Management of the queuing system (SGE) 5. Software installation and upgrade 6. Management of databases 7. Management and installation of the central servers and also the servers that are owned by the different research groups and the Genomics Unit 8. Management of the backup copies of scientific data 9. Maintenance of hardware dedicated to scientific computing 10. Consulting for acquisition and purchases of new computing equipment 11. Training of research staff in the good use of scientific computing equipment 12. Coordinating with the IT department (responsible for the network administration, e-mail and windows software) 13. Documenting all linux administrative tasks and procedures Requirements: The candidate should have a Computer Science/Informatics/Bioinformatics degree/equivalent with/or a demonstrated track record in: ? Configuration and administration of Linux computer clusters ? Knowledge of scripting languages (bash, python, perl) ? Experience in automating OS installation ? Strong diagnostic and analytical skills ? Basic understanding of IT security principles and best practices ? Experience in virtualization technology ? Experience in monitoring and firewall systems ? Installation and maintenance of scientific software ? Working knowledge of Linux systems administration in a biomedical research setting and/or scientific computing and/or communications with LINUX and UNIX-based systems (including Mac OS X) ? Fluency in English is essential. ? Network administration skills will be considered a plus ? Windows administration will NOT be considered. Conditions offered: ?
