Puppet users - Feb 2008 - Tagmail and service problem

Hi.
I have enabled tagmail, and now I get a lot of (notice) messages from
all my clients, a little to many I would say. (About 350 this night).

The mails I get are about the puppet service being changed from stopped
to running every time puppet check its configuration:

Is there someway to either configure tagmail to only send mail if errors
or other things happening, or can I modify my puppet-class so that it
dosent stop and start puppetd every time it has a configuration-run.?

Many init scripts (including redhat/fedora, probably others) use a program
that checks to see if a process is running, that specifically excludes the
calling process.  So when puppet calls the init script to see if puppet is
running, puppet itself gets excluded from the check.

That said, do you really need ensure => running in the service definition?
After all, if puppet is performing the check, then it''s running.  If
it''s not
running, and so the check should fail, it''s not running the check in
the first
place.

If you want to ensure that puppet is running, look around the wiki for the
cron job recipe.  That way you have the puppet checks running from something
that will still be running when puppet isn''t.
