First, ''service'' is a distribution-specific program/script
that executes
another distribution-specific /etc/init.d/shorewall script. So when
reporting problems on this list, we specifically ask that you use
''/sbin/shorewall start'', ''/sbin/shorewall
stop'' etc. and do NOT use
those programs that we have no control over.
Second, your report doesn''t give us anything that could possibly be
used
to understand the problem. You don''t even indicate which version of
Shorewall you are running -- If you really believe that all versions of
Shorewall do exactly the same thing, I might as well stop developing
Shoreawll and retire to Eastern Washington and raise Bees (apologies to
Arthur Conan Doyle).
Third, given that ''service shorewall start'' didn''t
give you anything
useful, you are probably using a distribution that logs all startup
messages to a log file; look at that log and see what is happening.
