Almost always when I''ve had an issue with something in
my DMZ it''s turned out to be with the name service
(DNS). Although packets both from and to the desired
service are being passed correctly, the program on the
DMZ machine can''t get its names resolved and as a
result appears not to work at all.
What happens if you specify an IP address rather than
a name?
Sometimes my problem has been with the firewall rules,
sometimes it''s been with the application itself, and
sometimes it''s been with the name resolver in the OS.
Specifying the wrong DNS address to a Windows static
configuration is the kiss of death.
thanks!
