Just got my new copy of Linux Format (a British magazine I subscribe to over here in the colonies), and they have an article about a roundup of firewall front-ends. Guess what? Shorewall won! The competition was (were if you are British) Guarddog, KMyFirewall, FireHOL, Firestarter, and Firewall Builder. Way to go!!!! and Thanks so much for a good firewall tool!!! charlie ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges. Ohf - not only that... the real work is - that Tom & Co. are putting a layer between what can be a complex firewall setup and the admin/user. And - to get this done right - is really really hard ! (Talking from experience). Back in time - I had done my own stuff - writing scripts etc. - it was a hard task - as at a certain moment in time - you really start dreaming of it ... And then suddenly - came shoreline Firewall ! The end of my scripting excerpts ... I am so glad we have a very solid fundament for setting up a firewall using shorewall - that I didn''t even bother looking at anything else in the last 4 Years ... And - what is the best - you can even handle it on the CLI ! so - running it on a very slow machine is really no issue - and _THAT_ is the real big advantage of shorewall over all other solutions ... And - BTW - of course - GPL ? :D the fast support (responsiveness of this list), capabilities, features, etc. ... Tom & Co. - a Big and Warm Thank You to all of you ... You really really deserved and deserve it ! Over the past weekend, a friend of mine in Australia informed me of the Linux Format article and I ordered a copy (£10.49/single issue for those of us in the colonies!). I''m looking forward to reading it. -Tom -- Tom Eastep \ Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool Shoreline, \ http://shorewall.net Washington USA \ teastep@shorewall.net PGP Public Key \ https://lists.shorewall.net/teastep.pgp.key ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges. If anyone wants to thank me, they should do so by testing the latest version of the Shorewall Webmin module, published this week in Webmin 1.370. :-) -- Paul <http://paul.gear.dyndns.org> -- Did you know?
