Rails spinoffs - Dec 2007 - I'm trying to create an in-place pop-up list that has an :onchange action

I''m trying to create an in-place pop-up list that has an :onchange
action.

When the user clicks on the target area on the page, an in-place pop-
up list appears.  When they change the list''s selection, an :onchange
action kicks in.

Would it be easier to start with InPlaceCollectionEditor and disable
the submit button or to create it from scratch?

Is there an example using Prototype/Scriptaculous that someone could
point me to?
