A beginners help
I have been trying to work with script.aculo.us however I am a complete novice and don''t even really know much javascript (apart from what i have learnt from online tutorials!). Could someone please help me with how I would even start to go about using script.aculo.us. I have been linking the prototype.js and scriptaculous.js and calling the functions from inside the html (for example onclick) However, it doesn''t seem to be working, and I am certain that I am doing something wrong. I would be ever so grateful if someone could please post an example of a simple ''onclick'' function. For example, I am trying to make a picture that a users clicks on disappear in the ''puff'' but just can''t seem to make it happen. I think once I have one working, I will be able to use that as an example and start playing around for myself. Could someone please help? There are alot of demos on the scriptaculos page and if you want advice on your code you have to show it ;) On Oct 30, 2007 9:36 PM, pinkfluffychic-Re5JQEeQqe8AvxtiuMwx3w@public.gmane.org <pinkfluffychic-Re5JQEeQqe8AvxtiuMwx3w@public.gmane.org> wrote:> > I have been trying to work with script.aculo.us however I am a > complete novice and don''t even really know much javascript (apart from > what i have learnt from online tutorials!). > > Could someone please help me with how I would even start to go about > using script.aculo.us. The first will get you on board with good Javascript OO techniques and prepare you for the second book. The second will let you answer your question and keep going from there. Javascript is a freaky language and will bite you hard if you''re not comfortable with it. Reading these two books saved me a lot of grief. Learning them side by side will teach you how to do things the prototype way. -- Edward Grant themasternone-Re5JQEeQqe8AvxtiuMwx3w@public.gmane.org RPGA #342155 CAMARILLA #US2002022579 --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Spinoffs" group. Learning them side by side will > teach you how to do things the prototype way. >That''s precisely why I recommended the "AJAX in Practice" book - it teaches Javascript OO techniques, but very much in a way that sets you up to understand how Prototype uses is (which is in the next chapter).
