I think MSIE will still create an ActiveX Data Object (ADO) in the JScript code to connect to any DB using ODBC. But I wouldn''t use it for Internet applications due to security issues, not to mention cross-browser incompatibility. If your intentions are to make a software to will run on your desktop as a standalone, John was right ; you want Java and MySQL, not Javascript. The first is, at least, compiled while the later is interpreted. It will be much more easier to use Java as interfaces are already designed to work with SQL databases. Although, if you insist, good luck in finding documentations on the subject. (Some useful starting point here : http://www.faqts.com/knowledge_base/view.phtml/aid/15795/fid/52) If you don''t find anything else relevant, that''s because there is no real point of doing so in Javascript. But if you still hold your on to your point, Look on the VBScript side. But that''s where I stop, because just thinking about VBScript makes me want to puke... Anyways. I''m still learning JS and Prototype, so if I ask dumb questions please bare with me, sooner or later I''ll get a clue. :) Right now I''m using mysql, php, kmail, and html to make an Ebay auction watcher. I can make it work without JS, but I''ve seen that the gui just looks better with JS. SOOO one question is where can I d/l a good basic how-to for JS in general for a newbie? My suggestion would be to google "Learn javascript" or something, and once your pretty confident you know javascript pretty well, then get stuck into prototype. Youll have a greater respect for prototype and how it makes things much more easier when you understand how they work.
