This happens because after shorewall has been running a while it will
report in Gigabits transferred and the mrtg script will only read it
properly and adjust the graph in kilobits or megabits. When you notice
this run shorewall reset and it will reset the counters...
Warning!!! The next time mrtg adjusts the logs you''ll probably see a
huge spike in the graph. I normally open the log file that mrtg creates
for each change and remove the last few entries after its run 2 or 3
adjustments.

Subject: [Shorewall-users] Shorewall accounting
Hello!
I am using shorewall and mrtg to track traffic.
Can sbd tell me why do I sometimes get strange results over mrtg graphs.
(sometimes the incoming line is missing, sometimes the outgoing line is
missing, sometimes the both lines are missing) But when I restart
shorewall all goes back to normal.
Thanks for the help.
