[Vorbis-dev] differences between mp3 and vorbis

I have worked in mp3 codec.Now I am interested in vorbis codec. 
so I want to know... 

1.what are the differences between mp3 and vorbis 
2.ogg vorbis takes less file size comparing to mp3 for same quality,but how it 
is achieved?
