Hello all, it seems that at least some of the points that make OGG Vorbis superior to MP3 will be eliminated (I still prefer OGG :) Roel VdB wrote to [MP3encoder] list: -------------------------><8---------CUT HERE-------------------------- I hope Gabriel commits Jons complete LAME Tag code soon to the CVS. [vorbis] LAME guys are making improvements, too
Hello SyP, Friday, 31 August, 2001, 11:14:06, you wrote: S> it seems that at least some of the points that make OGG Vorbis S> superior to MP3 will be eliminated (I still prefer OGG :) This looks nice, but it will require special decoders/players to work. LAME tag is just trying to avoid some mp3 limitations. Like this one: S> + a way to decode them exact in length, unit 1 sample This is possible, but as I said it will require special decoders that can read this tag. Vorbis, for example, doesn't need to do this since this has been fixed during the design of Ogg Vorbis. Also, OGG bitstream can offer metadata streams which will be able to do much more... -- Vorbis Xtreme | http://solair.eunet.yu/~aldov/ Ogg Vorbis is the free, open source alternative to MP3 --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'vorbis-request@xiph.org' containing only the word 'unsubscribe' in the body. Hi, S>> it seems that at least some of the points that make OGG Vorbis S>> superior to MP3 will be eliminated (I still prefer OGG :)>damn, I'm on the wrong mailinglists... :) S>> + a way to decode them exact in length, unit 1 sample> This is possible, but as I said it will require special decoders that > can read this tag.at least, it'll be possible. And the tag is as backward compatible as can be. It's just the Xing tag with some extra data fields at the end. LAME was using this anyways for it's ID string so it was a nice idea to put this all in there. This tag is sure as hell taking it's time to get into lame, but once in I think it'll be a fast riser. Independent of that, I'll be using it. :) -- Best regards, Roel mailto:vdbj@yucom.be --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'vorbis-request@xiph.org' containing only the word 'unsubscribe' in the body.
