-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, I just want to know whether it would be possible to play ogg-theora videos on my favourite Handheld, the GP2X. For those of you who don't know the GP2X yet there's much information about it on Wikpedia or on http://wiki.gp2x.org/wiki/Hardware_Documentation . To make it short, its an ARM-based Handheld which is able to play Xvid and DivX with its port of mplayer. It has a I believe 200 MHZ clocked ARM-processor which can safely be overclocked to 260 MHZ and sometimes up to 300. Thre's also as second processor which is used for playing movies and in some Emulators and stuff like that but there's not much information about that. The screen has a resolution of 320?240, would it be possible to play theora movies with that resolution on the GP2X? I ask because it's really annoying to have a harddisk full of theora movies and have to convert them to Xvid each time I want to watch them on a mobile device. I definitely must have one :) Of course Theora should run on this thing. If MPlayer was already ported, getting it recompiled and linked against to a cross-compiled version of Theora shouldn't be a problem... But getting full-speed playback at 320x240 might be challenging. Without hand-tuned assembly Theora might well be too slow. regards, David -- GnuPG public key: http://user.cs.tu-berlin.de/~dvdkhlng/dk.gpg Fingerprint: B17A DC95 D293 657B 4205 D016 7DEF 5323 C174 7D40
It definitively is possible, but like David Kuehling has mentioned, playback will probably be slow without some tuning. With some luck, someone out there will get to do just that. You mention a hard drive full of theora videos? Where do you get them? Wikipedia? Besides wikipedia I find it hard to spot Theora anywhere--unfortunately. If later you manage to get theora playback working, be kind enough to inform the people in this list as it will be useful to know. Best wishes, Ivo Emanuel Gon?alves
