Lustre discuss - Apr 2009 - any recommendations for configuration

I am looking for any recommendations for the best configuation with
the following:

(40) dual core AMDs, each have a Raid 1 (2x500gig) and 8 gig of RAM..

(1)  dual processor (2x Quad core processor) with 16 gig of RAM and a
Raid 6 (16x500gig).

They could most certainly be OSSes, although RAID 1 performs well, it is
not as cost effective as RAID 5 or 6.

This machine is better suited as an MDS than an OST with the exception
of the disk.  RAID 0 and/or 1 performs better in an MDS than RAID 5/6.
