I''m not sure about cray_kern_nal (that is Cray-only, need someone from
Cray to answer that) but e.g. Elan clients will not use any other
interface to communicate to the MDS or OST, not even during initial zconf
mount (assuming nettype is specified at mount). In many of the clusters
the clients don''t even have e.g. TCP connections to the MDS or OSTs.
For some NAL types (namely Infiniband) they use the IP address and possibly
a single TCP socket connection to establish communications to the servers,
afterward using only portals.
