Hi, First let me introduce myself to you, my name is Arjan and I'm network administrator of a win nt domain. Yesterday I had my first experience with SuSe 7.3 and tryed to configure the Samba server. For your information I want to act the Win nt server like a PDC not the samba server. I tryed to change the smb.conf file to the correct settings, now when I Look over the network from a Windows 98 client using the network neighbourhood, I can see the master Domain (Windows NT) and a workgroup called TUX_NET. In this workgroup I can see the Samba server. Now my question is if it's possible to make the samba server visible in the NT-Domain and how can I achieve that? Just change the workgroup name to that of the PDC, make sure samba is not configured for domain logons, and that its OS level is set up so it doesn't win elections. domain logons = no os level = 1 Also, set security = server password server = NT PDC and you should be all set. --Yan -- Daddy, did all the hair that fell off your head stick to your arms? Hi there Yan and Arjan, And for full integration of your Samba server into the Windows domain you should read the "samba appliance" documentation on how to use the winbindd daemon... Then things get real nice:-) (I love it) Martijn. -----Original Message----- From: Yan Seiner [mailto:yan@cardinalengineering.com] Sent: 23 January 2002 12:56 PM To: awijngaarden@vos-chemicals.nl Cc: samba@lists.samba.org Subject: Re: Samba in NT domain Arjan van Wijngaarden wrote:> > Hi, > > First let me introduce myself to you, my name is Arjan and I'm network > administrator of a win nt domain. Arjan, Read the documentation that is included with Samba. There is a file (I don't know the name right now) which describes ALL you want to know (and it works too). I am having the same configuration over here at KPN Eindhoven. I also installed Samba 2.2.2 on SuSE 7.3 and joined the Samba / Linux box to the Windows domain. I am using the Winbindd daemon for user verification against the domain controller (which is a Windows NT 4.0 Server). Goodluck / succes met het uitzoeken... Arjan You could try these links. The first one is the online copy of Learning Samba from O'Reilly. It's not a bad place to start. I used that and the documentation from Samba itself when I started out. It gave me the information I needed to get up and running. The second on is the Samba documentation site. http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/samba/chapter/book/indexpdf.html http://ie.samba.org/samba/docs/ Hth Sue -----Original Message----- From: Arjan van Wijngaarden [mailto:awijngaarden@vos-chemicals.nl] Sent: 23 January 2002 11:42 To: samba@lists.samba.org Subject: Samba in NT domain Hi, First let me introduce myself to you, my name is Arjan and I'm network administrator of a win nt domain.
