Please understand I am not a guru, but an engineer who uses LINUX as a foundation for engineering software development. I upgraded my machine (Quad/PII Xeon) to RH 7.2. Before 7.2, Samba worked perfectly. Using the same configuration file for 2.2.2, something is amiss! From my Win 2000/XP boxes I can see the broadcast name of the samba server, but when I double click the icon, it says I do not have permission. This is nearly identical to a post below. I read each and every response and tried to implement the recommendations. In all honesty, I am probably too OS illiterate to implement them properly. I am under the gun, please help!
Did you try this http://lists.samba.org/pipermail/samba-binaries/2001-May/000216.html? Samba completely broke when I upgraded from Red Hat 6.2 to 7.2. After following this post, it's working now. Another thing is that smb.conf is in /etc/samba now, not /etc like it was in Red Hat 6.2. Good luck, Hidong "Timothy W. Tim, A lot of things changed in the move from Samba 2.07 to the 2.2.1a-2.2.2 versions with respect to configuration to accommodate Win2000/XP. I'm still on 2.07 so I can't be much help. I think that this information is probably included in the textdocs that are part of the 2.2.2 distro. You will have to wait to get a more substantive from someone who is familiar with this issue. You may also want to search the list archives. I know this topic has been discussed before.. "Timothy W.
