Samba 2.0.3 had been running just fine when the server was running Red Hat
5.2. Last weekend, I upgraded the server to RH 6.1 (a completely new
installation) and samba 2.0.5a was installed at the same time.
Now I cannot get the win98 machine to see the network. I've checked the
/etc/smb.conf file several times (with local help, too) and it appears OK.
On the win98 side, I've gone over the TCP/IP properties multiple times
without finding the problem.
So, I ran the diagnostic tests as suggested in the docs. The setup fails
Test #2.
From the linux side (server name 'salmo'; IP address 192.168.55.1), I
can
ping the win98 side (client name 'buzzard'; IP address 192.168.55.6) by
name
or IP address. However, from the client side, a ping to the name (salmo) or
IP address (192.168.55.1) fails. The machine pings itself. That is, four
packets are transmitted and received to/from machine 192.168.55.6 (the
client, 'buzzard.')
Test #3 fails, too. Tests #4, 5, and 6 succeed.
This suggests to me that the problem is on the win98 side, but I've no
idea where.
I can send /var/log/samba/log.nmb or configuration files if that would
help. After working on this for about four days now, I just cannot find a
solution and I'd greatly appreciate some help.
Thanks,
Rich
