-----Original Message----- From: Robert Seese Sent: Monday, February 22, 1999 4:30 PM To: 'Jeremy Allison' Subject: RE: Samba Performance One thing I should mention is that during the file copy I noticed performance problems with directories that had several files in them. I thought the problem was with windows nt but the processes that seem to be running the slowest hit these directories. By several files I mean 35,000+ . The size of the files does not seem to matter 1k or 5m both are slow. Sorry for all the emails, Robert -----Original Message----- From: Jeremy Allison [mailto:jallison@cthulhu.engr.sgi.com] Sent: Monday, February 22, 1999 4:03 PM To: Pankaj Chowdhry Cc: Jeremy Allison; rseese@rrsinfo.com Subject: Re: Samba Performance Pankaj Chowdhry wrote:> > I am currently running samba 2.0 on a HP Netserver LH4 Xeon single > processor. Could you elaborate a little more on your configuration and problems ? In addition, it may be advantagous to move the discussion to samba@samba.org or samba-technical@samba.org so more minds than mine can work on your problem :-). We are running RH 5.2 and samba 2.0 I plan on upgrading to 2.02 this evening. -----Original Message----- From: Jeremy Allison [mailto:jallison@cthulhu.engr.sgi.com] Sent: Monday, February 22, 1999 4:03 PM To: Pankaj Chowdhry Cc: Jeremy Allison; rseese@rrsinfo.com Subject: Re: Samba Performance Pankaj Chowdhry wrote:> > I am currently running samba 2.0 on a HP Netserver LH4 Xeon single > processor. -----Original Message----- From: Robert Seese Sent: Monday, February 22, 1999 4:10 PM To: 'Jeremy Allison' Subject: RE: Samba Performance I migrated 49 gig of image data to the server over the weekend. Unfortunately all of the performance testing I did was from one workstation. CPU utilization is at 98 to 100 percent at all times with 30 users connected. The server has 512 mb of ram 100mb intel nic HP netraid controler card with (8) 18gig drives in a raid 10 configuration and 2 mirrored 4 gig drives for the operating system. The filesystem performance is good 16 seconds to create a 100mb file "dd if=/dev/zero of=test.foo bs=1024 count =10000" ifconfig shows no collisions or any other sort of error. Please let me know if you see anything in the attached smb.conf file that might be a problem. Thanks!
