Problems with Samba, NT4, Office 97 and MS Word Temporary Files
I am running samba version 1.9.18p3 on HP-UX 10.20 We sometimes have a problem on NT4 clients when a user of the Microsoft Word that is part of the Office 97 suite tries to save a document. Error messages from word include: "There is a network or file persissions problem" and "The path is inavlid". I have examined the log file to track this down but I am not sure what to make of it. Has anyone else come across this or know of a cause and/or solution? Here are tweo log file excerpts related to the problem. Excerpt 1 ======== This is from an attempt to save an existing document back to the Samba share after having modified it: switch message SMBopenX (pid 5071) Skipping become_user - already user unix_clean_name [./221dm/m/pp/fsa127.tmp] unix_convert(221dm/m/pp/fsa127.tmp,108) New file fsa127.tmp unix_clean_name [221dm/m/pp/fsa127.tmp] calling open_file with flags=0x0 flags2=0x0 mode=0660 Allocated new file_fd_struct 2, dev = ffffffff, inode = ffffffff Error opening file 221dm/m/pp/fsa127.tmp (No such file or directory) (flags=0) fd_attempt_close on file_fd_struct 2, fd = -1, dev = ffffffff, inode = ffffffff, open_flags = 2, ref_count = 1. 02/24/1998 14:40:29 error packet at line 1315 cmd=45 (SMBopenX) eclass=1 ecode=2 error string = No such file or directory Excerpt 2 ======== This is from an attempt to save a document under a new name having just openned it under the original name.
