I am planning to sign up for a VoIP service in the U.S. Can anyone recommend anything cheap, reliable and good quality? I want to use it for my primary house phone (I also own a cell phone). I also want the service to be asterisk friendly so I can play with it :-) Thanks in advance. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... You can give HYPERLINK "http://www.broadvoice.com/"www.broadvoice.com a try. Only been using them for a few weeks, but their prices are decent. I'm on Broadvoice and I think its fine. They don't "support" it though. It is however well documented. There's not too many providers that'll let you "play" with your service. Most of the Broadvoice types won't even allow you to set your own CID. Hi Mag, I use Packet 8, you have to use their ata but there is an unlock software that allows you to modify the codecs :-) (makes a huge difference) They also allow you to forward all calls to a second number so your incoming asterisk line could also be permanently forwarded to your cell number (means you can answer calls to your house on your cell at no charge). I just setup VoicePulse (http://connect.voicepulse.com/), and it was very easy (good setup docs in Asterisk@Home guide, which is what I'm using). Limited experience yet, but it was very easy and quick, and pretty cheap too. IAX support, multiple phone #'s, etc. On an semi-unrelated note, Vonage is doing business-class service now. Anyone have any experience with them? I hear SIP but no IAX support. You could do that and terminate directly to a sip provider but then you lose the benefits of asterisk. If you are only new to asterisk then check out asterisk@home http://asteriskathome.sourceforge.net <http://asteriskathome.sourceforge.net/> it's by far the easiest way to get started. Some people on another forum have been complaining about them, they also don't allow you to port your number out if you want to leave. ________________________________ From: asterisk-users-bounces@lists.digium.com [mailto:asterisk-users-bounces@lists.digium.com] On Behalf Of Mag Gam Sent: Wednesday, 31 August 2005 10:57 AM To: Asterisk Users Mailing List - Non-Commercial Discussion Subject: Re: [Asterisk-Users] VoIP service recommendation Okay! The sea is getting bigger.. (sea of providers.. sea of emails on this topic) voip-info.org <http://voip-info.org> has a list of quite a few. I use broadvoice and have no issues, but if when you say "asterisk friendly" you mean supports iax, then you'll have to look eslewhere. I have both SIP and IAX providers and I notice no difference in quality (both are ulaw) or reliability.. IAX seems a bit more firewall friendly though. If you need a local DID and don't live in a large city, that might limit your providers too. (junctionnetworks lets you set your cid and supports iax.. although i couldn't get it to register, so i'm on sip) Kris On 8/31/05, Mag Gam <magawake@gmail.com> wrote:> > I am planning to sign up for a VoIP service in the U.S. Can anyone > recommend anything cheap, reliable and good quality? In sip.conf, when using: bindaddr=0.0.0.0 incoming registrations are denied with a 403 [Unauthorized] response. Is this not the way to listen on all interfaces? When using: bindaddr=213.193.241.43 everything works fine. How do I listen on all available interfaces? Rene Kluwen Chimit
I am setting up a snom 360, and the lights come on OK when the mapped user makes an outgoing call, but when the user takes an incoming call the light does not come on. I do not want to install the bristuff patch if possible. (although I can see that with the devstate command I can make the lights do whatever I want) Any ideas? regards, Paul Hales Melbourne, Australia CAUTION: This email message and accompanying data may contain information that is confidential. Hello Paul, Thursday, September 1, 2005, 4:38:42 AM, you wrote: PH> I am setting up a snom 360, and the lights come on OK when the mapped PH> user makes an outgoing call, but when the user takes an incoming call PH> the light does not come on. Correct behaviour should be put the hint of the caller to 1 (steady ligt) while calling put the hint of the called to X (blinking light, cant remember which state it is ) while phone is ringing, then to 1 if call is answered. Unfortunately I dont know how to accomplish this .... Regards! -- Best regards, Alessio mailto:afoc@interconnessioni.it
Issue #3644 has recently been committed to CVS-HEAD which allows for full device state notification via subscriptions for Snom 360 and other supporting phones w/o the need for additional patches.
