asterisk users - Aug 2005 - detaching console from foreground asterisk

Is it possible to start asterisk in the foreground ("asterisk -fc")
and
later detach from the terminal but leave asterisk running?

Start Asterisk in a screen(1) terminal ?

BTW: anybody wants to wrap safe_asterisk to make it possible to use a
screen terminal instead of a virtual console?

Maybe this is too lame but how about you type this in a
screen session:

while (1) {
	asterisk -fc
}
