 SER gives you the ability to process thousands of calls per second. Because
asterisk is NOT a SIP Proxy (which SER is) Asterisk cannot process thousands
of calls per second.

        In which circumstances should I be using SER ?

        i.e. what does SER give me that * does not ?

Thanks Matthew. From this I would infer that SER is to Asterisk as Squid is to 
HTTP ?
