asterisk users - Oct 2004 - Company Directory/Dial by Name

Has anyone figured out a way to dial by last name?

 

I.e.

Caller hits 9 for company directory.

 

"Spell the person's Last Name.  When done, press the pound button"

 

Caller enters 8.4..6.#

 

"Tim Thompson extension 300"  "If this is correct, press the
pound key"

 

"David Thompson extension 405" If this is correct, press the pound
key".

 

Etc.

Firstly, I assume you mean hash (#), as found on telephone keypads,
rather than pound (?), as found on currency. :-)

Secondly, you seem to be looking for the Directory application:

    http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-Asterisk+cmd+Directory

That application appears to use the '1' key, rather than the hash key,
but seems to do what you want.  I haven't used it myself.
