Hello everyone, If you don't have Digium card but you want to use G.729 codec, do you need a license for it? If the VoIP termination point supports G.729 and you are using sip phone (soft/hard phone), can you use the G.729 pass thru or you have to buy the license? Have anyone test it with SCSI system? Seems like it only work on machine with IDE disk. Thanks. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Hi, G.729 requires a license from Digium no matter what. As long as asterisk doesn't have to encode anything for transmitting as G.729 you can use passthru, this does mean however you will lose the asterisk features such as voicemail. The way the codec for asterisk works is it is based around your IDE hardrive (for the license), thus using a SCSI hardrive will not work. Digium is working with the company who made the asterisk codec however so that SCSI will work in the future. - Joshua Colp. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Unavailable ID> To: asterisk-users@lists.digium.com Sent: Thursday, March 04, 2004 6:32 PM Subject: [Asterisk-Users] G.729 vs. G.729 pass thru Hello everyone, If you don't have Digium card but you want to use G.729 codec, do you need a license for it? As long as you have a IDE drive available, and mounted when you install it, it will work. This includes CD ROM's...It's what I did. Funkiness with the registration process. As far as pass through goes, from what I understand, it *should*, but when you have licensed binaries, from what I've seen, it doesn't. It's actually used 2 licenses. I plan on figuring that out next. On all tests, I've run, fantastic. I haven't had any issues with voice quality at all, even on analog lines. Marcio, Yes...You should have no issue with that. If you have any problems, you can call Digium and they'll make sure your license works, or create a new one. Just make sure you delete the original channel driver, so your in compliance with the license. Sorry for my ignorance but what is the difference between using the G.729
codec and using G.729 pass thru. In my scenario below does it consider to be
using the G.729 or using it as pass through?? Do I still need licence for
the G.729?
SIP(if using g.729) --->asterisk----->h323
softswitch(g729)----->cisco5300(g729)---->pstn
Phone SIP/H323
translation
Where could I find more information for using asterisk as pass thru?
Regards,
Anthony
Anthony,
Asterisk by default allows pass through. You shouldn't need a
license. It's only when you need to do transcoding (I.E. you need to
decompress the voice, whether it be for Codec translation, to dial out a
Zap channel, which would be ULAW or ALAW, Voicemail (still technically
codec translation), or any other number of things.) If you are just
doing protocol conversion, with the same codecs, then your fine.
However, if you need
SIP(any codec other than G.729) -->asterisk ---> H.323 SS(g729)
Then you would need a license.
