Dear All,
I am using CentOs 3.5 on a 64 bit Xeon machine. I wanted to install
aic7xxx-6.3.9-rhel3.i686.rpm to use DAT 72 but it is giving following
error message. Please help to resolve this problem:
I took this rpm from http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/ web site.

[root at Fractus 39160]# rpm -Uvh aic7xxx-6.3.9-rhel3.i686.rpm
   Preparing...

 [100%]

 Adaptec aic7xxx driver installer - V6.3.9-1

  Backing up all modified files to /boot/aic7xxx-backup-6

 Using GRUB configuration
 If this is not what you want, rename your /boot/grub/grub.conf file

 /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.21-37.EL /boot/initrd-2.4.21-37.EL.img CentOS

maybe you should get the source rpm and rebuild it

are you running 64 bit Centos? if so then that's not an i686 but a x86_64

note x86_64

conclusion: get a aic7xxx for x86_64 or reinstall your os to 32-bit
