Tengo que leer archivos .xls y me aparece el siguiente error:

No he usado nunca la función que te da problemas, pero si he leido datos de un excel con la siguiente, * * *library(RODBC)* *data=odbcConnectExcel(file.choose())* *sqlTables(data)* *D=sqlFetch(data, "P5")* *odbcClose(data)* donde, data es el nobre del archivo excel que hemos abiertyo i p5, la hoja de este excel de la que queremos leer los datos. espero que te ayude. Te sugiero usar RODBC a traves de la siguiente funcion, donde
"yourfile" es
el nombre del archivo de Excel, incluyendo la ruta., e.g.
"C:/datos/aa.xls"
y "worksheet" corresponde a la hoja donde tienes la informacion, e.g.
"Hoja1".
# From Excel
FromExcel <- function(yourfile,worksheet){
require(RODBC)
channel <- odbcConnectExcel(yourfile)
mydata <- sqlFetch(channel, worksheet)
odbcClose(channel)
attach(mydata)
mydata
}
install.packaes("RODBC")
misdatos <- FromExcel("C:/datos/aa.xls", "Hoja1")
head(midatos)

Cesar, si no tienes Windows (es mi caso), puedes utilizar la función "read.xls" del paquete "gdata". Yo la utilizo frecuentemente y funciona perfectamente.
