crossbow discuss - Jan 2010 - Crossbox and Xen live migration

I have been following the crossbow work with great interest, I am wondering
if live migration of VMs is possible when using the direct i/o model
(bypassing OS etc), I know this is a problem with vmware currently and
wondered if this was being addressed in xVM environments.

There is no support for direct IO in the current xVM implementation.

The in-development version of direct IO will not support domain
migration in the first version made available - any domain with direct
access to a device will not be able to migrate. A second phase will add
support for managing the removal of direct IO devices before a domain is
migrated (after which direct IO devices can be added back to the
domain).
