I've uploaded Xapian 1.0.8 (including Search::Xapian 1.0.8.0), which as
usual you can download from:
http://xapian.org/download
This release fixes a few bugs, improves the efficiency of using a lot of
value slots in a document, and fixes a portability niggle in Omega.
It's intended to be a relatively safe incremental update over 1.0.7.
One of the bugs fixed could cause flint databases to be reported as
corrupt in certain cases where all postings for a term are removed.
It's not common, but has been hit independently by two different users,
so if you ever delete or replace documents, I'd recommend upgrading
for peace of mind. Note that the Debian and Ubuntu 1.0.7-3 packages
already include this fix.
(The issue is that some chunks in the postlist table don't get removed,
which is potentially recoverable as no data is lost or damaged).
For a more detailed overview see:
http://trac.xapian.org/wiki/ReleaseOverview/1.0.8
The full lists of user-visible changes are linked to from there, and are
also available via the "[news]" links on the download page.
As always, if you encounter problems, please report them here, or to
the bugtracker.
Not sure when Debian and Ubuntu packages will appear - I'm moving house
tomorrow and may be without regular internet for a while.
Cheers,
Olly
