Trotter Cashion (and myself) wrote a CAPTCHA based on Cairo/rcairo.
Jamis'' CAPTCHA gem was our first choice, but its gd dependency made it
all but impossible to install on OSX and RHEL. After we reached a
point of compile/install frustration only enjoyed by native hex
speakers, Zed suggested we use Cairo (which happened to have a Ruby
wrapper rcairo) and roll our own.
Let me know if CAPTCHA is even of interest as an option. It''s not as
cute as the kitty CAPTCHA, but it doesn''t confuse too many humans and
we have not yet been foiled by the Chinese LCD bot and its merciless
brethren.
