[Xen-users] xen will only load images built for xen v3.0
Hi, I am attempting to get Xen working on my Mandriva Linux and I can only get as far as the initial loading screen which happens to be failing with: "xen will only load images built for xen v3.0" I am following the instructions outlined at http://qa.mandriva.com/twiki/bin/view/Main/HowToXen Any hints on where I should start debugging this problem? cheers, Jeffery _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

In the given conditions I switched to Debian and now I''m a happy Xen-3.0.2 user. I am happy to build RPMs from existing source if it fixes this issue. Anyone else encountered similar problem ? cheers, Jeffery _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

I switched the host (Domain0) to Debian, running the "unstable" version (of the 2.0.x series, I believe; I am fairly certain it is not 3.0.x, as this was before 3.0.x was released officially) My DomainU''s are all Mandriva, though :-) I am thinking of upgrading to the latest 3.0.x (I have another machine I can test things on first) but wanted to see what sort of bugs others are experiencing first. I would like to have my host system as Mandriva, preferably installed via RPM. I suspect Mandriva Cooker, or possibly the 2007.0 tree that is in "devel" may have more up-to-date builds than the pre-release snapshot of 3.0.0, though I have not yet looked. Your problem, however, Jeffery, sounds like you are trying to run a DomU that you were previously running under 2.0.x and are now trying to run on a 3.0.x system? -Alan _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Hi Jeffery, I am not sure if this will help, but many months ago, I ran into a similar problem as Geza while trying to use Mandriva 2006.0 as my host system: networking would not work. I switched the host (Dom0) to Debian, running the "unstable" version (of the 2.0.x series, I believe; I am fairly certain it is not 3.0.x, as this was before 3.0.x was released officially) My DomU''s are all Mandriva, though :-) I am thinking of upgrading to the latest 3.0.x (I have another machine I can test things on first) but wanted to see what sort of bugs others are experiencing first. I suspect Mandriva Cooker, or possibly the 2007.0 tree that is in "devel" may have more up-to-date builds than the pre-release snapshot of 3.0.0, though I have not yet looked and am not sure if they are "improved", though the person who wrote that How-To you linked to in your post seems to have been successful on a 2006.0 Your problem, however, Jeffery, sounds like you are trying to run a DomU that you were previously running under 2.0.x and are now trying to run on a 3.0.x system? -Alan _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Re: [Xen-users] xen will only load images built for xen v3.0
Hi Jeffery, I am not sure if this will help or not... First, regarding your problem: Are you trying to run a DomU under your newly-installed xen-3 host that was previously running under a xen-2 host? It sounds like a similar problem I had when I was having a look at xen-3 a while ago... Regarding Mandriva and Xen: Many months ago, I ran into a similar problem as Geza: networking would not work. I switched the host (Domain0) to Debian, running the "unstable" version (of the 2.0.x series, I believe; I am fairly certain it is not 3.0.x, as this was before 3.0.x was released officially) My DoU''s are all Mandriva, though :-) I am thinking of upgrading to the latest 3.0.x (I have another machine I can test things on first) but wanted to see what sort of bugs others are experiencing first. I suspect Mandriva Cooker, or possibly the 2007.0 tree that is in "devel" may have more up-to-date builds than the pre-release snapshot of 3.0.0, though I have not yet looked, but I just may give that a shot. -Alan _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

It sounds like a similar problem I had when I was > having a look > at xen-3 a while ago...No can do. Xen 3.x is not backwards compatibel with Xen 2.x. Xen 3.x is meant to have an interface that allows older Xen 3.x guests to run on newer Xen 3.y hypervisors, but running Xen 2.x guests on Xen 3.x is not supported.> > Regarding Mandriva and Xen: Many months ago, I ran into a similar > problem as Geza: networking would not work.
