Xapian discuss - Jul 2014 - Building from git fails on Arch Linux

I was building Xapian from git and running make resulted in error *No rule
to make target 'patches/autoconf/series\\'*

/bin/sh is 4.3

I guess that means your /bin/sh is bash.

Can you try the attached patch?

Installing Python3 bindings from snapshot.
make ran successfully but sudo make install resulted in error
