wine users - May 2008 - Carrara 6 on wine in Ubuntu Hardy...

I am new and trying to get Daz Carrara 6 Pro going on Ubuntu Hardy. 

I am on a Core 2 Quad Q6600 Dell Inspiron 530 using an ATI X1650 pro card.
I am using the Ubuntu Add/Remove ATI drivers and Wines.
Carrara 6 pro 6.1. and I just updated to 6.1.1.
I did not load the C++ and I have turned off windows management in WINE.

If I change the interactive rendering settings and click OK, Carrara vanishes. 
Carrara[ interface is OpenGL. 

The problem could be Wine, Carrara or the Graphic card drives. 
Is there a way to isolate which it might be. 

There was little info in the Wine appDB. and we have an active discussion on the
DAZ forum where a number of use are trying to us Carrara  on Wine.

Run it from the terminal, 'cd'ing into programs directory first. If
there are any input - post it here.

Also what your Wine version? Run 'wine --version'.

How do I Disable / remove compiz? And what is that?

Use the Google, Luke!  And/or the Ubuntu forums.  compiz is the 3d effects
in your desktop.  They sometimes conflict with Wine.

If you experience problems when using visual effects, it is advisable to disable
them by opening System ? Preferences ? Appearance ? Visual Effects and selecting
No effects.

System ? Preferences ? Appearance ? Visual Effects > None Provides a simple
desktop environment without any visual effects.
Is this what you mean? Mine was set to none.

I do not have this at all which is said to be the advanced settings. 

Is there a terminal command that would show if compiz is enabled?

 and check if anything is listed. If it is - you have a problem.
Have you checked your video drivers? What version?

I new to Ubuntu so I am moving slower than you might hope but hanging in there. 
I am still waking up from a Microsoft dream I was having...

Thanks. I am trying hard to learn as I go but I am new and not used to the
terminal.
I really like the idea of Wine and what they are managing to achieve (the
reality).

The page fault kills the program. I was able to move the camera smoothly some.
