I just have a quick question. While looking through what documentation i could find for oggenc, i was unable to figure out if a mono stream is automatically detected and encoded properly. I have several audiobook-type waves to be converted, and i just need to figure this out so i can delete the huge .wavs off of my disk. Thanks PS Is rc4 just around the corner (with rumored improved support at lower bitrates/quality), or should i just go ahead and do it already? 8) <p><p>--- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'vorbis-request@xiph.org' containing only the word 'unsubscribe' in the body. I beleive it can do any number of channels... Why don't you encode a file to find out? On Fri, 21 Jun 2002 10:33, David Falkyn wrote:> I just have a quick question. Hi: As others have said already, mono works fine. I've been doing a bit of this encoding books thing lately, and my experience is that q2 will probably do for 44.1khz (q1 introduced a *tiny* bit of echo). At lower rates where the encoder has not been tuned, don't use lower than q3 due to the resultant echo. As for RC4, I'm not a developer but I watch the CVS commits. It would appear to me that RC4 has a bit to go, as Monty is still hacking away on a side branch. I wouldn't expect a release for a little while yet, though I do note that when releases happen, they tend to happen quickly once they get close. Lower sampling rates will be tuned in RC4, so I'm keeping my 22.05khz wavs around so I can re-encode when RC4 is released.
