Vorbis dev - Jan 2001 - Offtopic: (Stupid newbie question) Xiphophorous, or XYphophorous

I was just playing with GDict, and I tried looking up Xiphophorous.  The closest
entry is for "Xyphophorous helleri".  Why the difference in spelling? 
Was this
on purpose?  (In my opinion, Xiphophorous looks cooler than Xyphophorous).

Well, I don't know, but in Holland we used to write "cylinder" and
now
it's "cilider" officially, so maybe there's a psychic
connection of some
kind...

The proper name is "Xiphophorus helleri" in every relevant publication
I've seen.  My guess is they typoed (or maybe found an obsolete
reference).
