[theora] Freedom-friendly video hardware community
Our discussion in the "Theora Camcorder" thread has been great, but I didn't see a direction evolve for action yet. So, I'd like to propose the creation of a community website that will be focused specifically on this kind of thing, partnered with the Xiph Foundation. I'm also more than happy to host said website, as I have more than ample server capacity for that. I just want to take an informal poll of who would be interested in such a thing before actually going through with it. Let me know, and I'd like to also hear some suggestions for a nice name for the community. In an ideal world, it would be a community for general hardware ideas, but I think we can take advantage of the urgent need for a free /video/ device that normal users can use as a camcorder, so we can let it be video/consumer-related, at least initially. Some ideas for names: - Theoracorder - Liberated Video - Unbound (I didn't say they'd be good ideas!) -- *Basil Mohamed Gohar* abu_hurayrah at hidayahonline.org http://www.basilgohar.com/blog/ IslamicHomeschool.com - Islamic Education for the Home <http://www.islamichomeschool.com/>

I am excited. Liberated video is great. On May 7, 2010 8:54 AM, "Teran McKinney" <sega01 at gmail.com> wrote: Yes, Unbound is a DNS server package and the name would be hard to search for. I like Liberated Video the best, personally. Theora probably won't always be around and it'll give the option to move to VP8 or another codec in the future, as the main intent I believe is to have free video rather than just use Theora. To me, Theoracorder sounds like something for a hard core geek, not most who want to just make videos and distribute them however they please. Good sounding name ideas, though :-). --Teran On Fri, May 7, 2010 at 10:49, Lino Mastrodomenico < l.mastrodomenico at gmail.com> wrote: > 2010/5/5 Ra... -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I have no idea what this thread is about, but you might want to look at the Elphel Apertus project: http://cinema.elphel.com/ They are trying to take an Elphel camera and add all the stuff needed to make it a convenient high-end portable videocamera. Present work seems to be mostly on the control interface. The roadmap calls for Dirac Pro output if possible. --Ben
