I am very interested in the Theora codec, but I dont knwo how to get it started. Do I have to install it? or should I just look for a Theora player to watch theora videos? Anyways I have Vista installed so I dont know how my pc is going to react to it. Thanks
Hi, Either install the Direct Show filters[1] or VLC[2]. If you do the former, Windows Media Player will play Theora just fine. If you do the latter, you are using a different player than you're probably used to, but you may like it. Then, all you have to do is locate some videos to play[3]. To make your own, get ffmpeg2theora[4]. -Ivo P.S: If you want more information check this page[5]. If you just want to watch theora videos the best solution is probably to download the VLC Media Player from http://www.videolan.org/ and install it on your PC. It can play theora-videos and almost every format you can imagine. You could also install Oggcodecs to play theora videos with the Windows Media Player but imho VLC is way better than that.> Anyways I have Vista installed > so I dont know how my pc is going to react to it.Don't worry, VLC runs on Vista and Oggcodecs support it as well. Also there's no danger that your PC might explode or anything like that ;-) . Worst thing that could happen ist that playing theora videos doesn't work for some reason.
