I don't know if they can (and/or want to) be combined to a single DOS/Windows binary as has been done as experiment for [ http://www.fdos.org/kernel/sys/sys3.8pre.zip ]. If I followed the list correctly, syslinux.com/exe v5.00 is supposed to generate LDLINUX.SYS as well as LDLINUX.C32 from its internal code. For minimal functionality you'd add SYSLINUX.CFG with desired content, and optionally other stuff like modules, libraries and menu system. each with their own dependencies. Bernd

Please note - and please forgive me for this note; I just want to be clear - that the fact that the DOS-based installer is located in "C:...", which happens to be where Win98 is installed, is not related to this question. The question is which OS is running when you try to execute the SYSLINUX installation command. Q2: Have you tried to execute the following command? syslinux --directory /syslinux --install o: Note that there are two consecutive "minus" signs before "directory" and also before "install", and that there is no space right after the minus signs. Also note that the specified directory, "/syslinux", starts with a "slash bar". Please don't forget to use it, and please don't use backslash "\" instead. Although Windows usually uses backslash for paths, and some compatibility with backslash was added in Syslinux 5.00, the "safest" command would be to use slash "/" for the "--directory" option, even under Windows. >Thursday, January17, 2013 1:10 AM Ady wrote,>4_ Now, there is one thing in that syslinux.cfg file I sent you thatI can't correct for this specific Syslinux 5.00: using multiple lines as "TEXT HELP". This is a known bug in Syslinux 5.00, so I had to put all the text in between each pair of TEXT HELP - ENDTEXT directives in one line. With this specific version of Syslinux, this text is not going to be displayed on the screen the way you want it. If you try to use more than one line of text, with this specific version of Syslinux the boot menu will hang. The good news is that the next version, 5.01, should hopefully correct this bug, so you should be able to use multiple lines again in between each pair of TEXT HELP - ENDTEXT directives. 6_ Regarding SYSLINUX.COM version 5.00 for Win9x/DOS, I would recommend NOT using it for now, specially when you have the option of using SYSLINUX.EXE under WinXP. Now Syslinux-5.01 is out. Your Expert's Advice on _4 and _6 as above. With Regards Prof S W Damle
