Any doubts about R's big-league status should be put to rest, now that we have a Sudoku Puzzle Solver. Take that, SAS! See package "sudoku" on CRAN. Ryacas and fractions with simultaenously very large numerators and denominators
Dear All I am doing the following: > x <- yacas("3/2") > for (i in 2:400) + x <- yacas(paste(x,"*",x)) > x expression(Inf^1.260864167e+117/Inf^6.304320836e+116) > Eval(x) [1] NaN No luck this way. However, I am successful with > y <- yacas("(3/2)^400") > y expression(7.05507910865533e+190/2.58224987808691e+120) > Eval(y) [1]

I am surprised (and a little irritated)
I have started with using R on Windows, and I am really happy about the system. Now, one of my other ambitions is to learn how to use Linux, so yesterday I downloaded OpenSuse and installed that. The next problem was to try to use R with Linux. And there I met the wall. I've understood that RPM's are somewhat like installing programs on Windows, so that was downloaded and started

Installing R
I am trying to install R on a suse 7.0 linux system. When I attempt to use the source, I receive an error message that says no fortran compiler was found. I do have gnuc which is supposed to have g77 as part of the installation, but I don't know how to use this information. I also tried the binary installation and received an error message: bash-2.04# rpm -ivh R-base-1.1.1-2.i386.rpm..rpm

copying and pasting to R in linux
When I use R, I am accustomed to developing programs in a text processor, and then copying from the text processor and pasting into R. This usually works fine, except that using the default text processor in Suse 9.0, long programs don't transfer completely. Using the 'source' program, also only works with small programs. Suggestions?

Samba Guide, SuSe and Yast
Hi, I'm using SuSe Linux Enterprise Server 9. I've setup a Samba/LDAP solution according to ch5 of the Samba Guide. It's working - that's great :-) Now I'd like to know if anyone tried to manage the users database using tools provided by Yast. Is there a risk to mess up everything ? Did anyone try that before ? Thanks for your help, Olivier Thibaut.

Suse 10.0 Getting WINE to work
I recently tried to get WINE to work on my Suse 10.0 system. I believe that my problem stems from not realizing that I needed to issue the command: winecfg before the command: wine install.exe The result was the creation of the .wine directory and associated subdirectories and drive links/mappings. In the subdir structure, I find many directories/files from my various attempts to install,

idmap backend ad well-known-sids 512 & 513
Hi, we are in the process of testing a migration from our NT Classic Domain with OpenLdap to Samba AD. In our test setup migration of all accounts, groups and computer accounts went well using the classicupgrade path. Next step now is testing how to add a member server for file server services. We were able to get the server to join the domain and also idmapping works mostly as expected.

wine-20050211 on SuSE 9.2
I am trying to install wine-20050211 on my second system, which runs SuSE 9.2. After much faffing around I finally managed to download and install bison, which allowed ./config to complete. A warning at the end advised me to install xlib-devel or xfree86-devel. Googling around I found the RPM for XFree86-devel for SuSE 9.1 so I downloaded it and started to install it. Unfortunately, a

Install R 2.3.1 on SUSE Linux
Hello: I am new to Linux, and I am trying to install R 2.3.1 on SUSE Linux 10.0. The RPM installer, YAST, states that I need libgfortran.so.0. I have loaded Intel FORTRAN and GCC FORTRAN; but I still do not have the libgfortran.so.0 module YAST is asking for. Is there somewhere I can get this module for SUSE Linux 10.0. There is a post on the R-Help for this same problem; but I cannot seem to

install R under suse: packages dependency
Hi all I'm trying to install R 2.3.0 under Suse 10.0. As I'm using SSH to login into the SUSE server, I can't use YAST2, so I have to use rpm -i in the shell. The system tells me that I need some other packages such as xorg-x11-fonts-100dpi, blas, libgfortran.so.0(). Is there some website where I can download and install these packages? Thanks a lot!
