Toll-free DID switchover: Get status?
Hello! I am in the middle of having a vanity toll-free DID set up. It's been 13 days now (9 business days). This is the first time I'm doing this, and I'm not sure of the process. There has been a very weird progression of changes on my number, from fast-busy, to a message saying that I'm calling from a phone with restrictions (no matter *what* line I call from), to a

- Advice on NetFinity 5000 series
I have an opportunity to pick up a couple of NetFinity 5500's 4 way Xeon 550's w/ 2 gig RAM for very little $$$ I have seen this: http://www.mail-archive.com/asterisk-dev@lists.digium.com/msg00719.html In it, there is a passing remark to the Digium cards having problems with NetFinity's. Can anyone here comment on whether this is still an issue with * 1.0? It'd be a bummer if

OT: PRI costs in US
Hello! Several of my customers would like to add a backup to their Internet connection. ISDN is a good solution: decently fast for a dial-up-type connection, yet still faily affordable. While I was at it, I decided to look at a couple of more creative telephone service options to possibly improve their service or lower costs at the same time. These customers range from having just a

OT: How to "own" a telephone number?
Hello! We are open to the possibility of changing our business telephone number shortly. This will most likely be necessary due to a physical move, changing providers and a few other reasons. However, we woud like this to be the *last* time we need to do this. Ever. No matter what. Is that possible? On the Internet, you get this power with domain names. We "own" our domain

Best IP phone?
Hello! I have finally ordered some Asterisk hardware: the TDM DevKit. However, I want to use VoIP phones (or possibly adapters) for remote users. I would like to get some suggestions on which phones to buy. I'm hoping that some of you with real experience might be able to help me out! Here are the features that are important to me: * While these phones are initially going to be

Which analog phones to use and why?
Hello! Now that I finally have my TDM board working, I want to move forward with using PBX functions. However, it seems cumbersome to use standard POTS telephones with Asterisk. I know that there are many of you installing even large systems based on channel banks and analog telephones. What phones are you using? How do you simulate phone system features on a phone that doesn't have

Digium support quality: Excellent
Hello! I wanted to make sure that, in addition to my complaints, I make it very clear: Digium's support is excellent. The jury is still out on the usefulness of the TDM products. However, Digium has worked very hard to make sure that this issue is resolved. I actually got an e-mail from someone at Digium actually asking what they could do to make me happy! She even gave me

OT: List of VoIP providers?
I have been looking around for VoIP providers but have not found a good listing. Is there no "yellow pages" for VoIP providers? Google mostly returns services like Vonage, Packet8, NuFone, ect. None seam to be very reseller friendly and none offer LNP or local DID's for my area. Anyone know of a list (even a partial one) Jeromie Reeves

Asterisk<>X100P<>Packet8
Noob here, my apologies in advance. Recently my employer decide to stop paying for my home POTS line, so I ordered packet8 for a home line instead of another POTS line, since I really dislike my local phone company, and the POTS line without any long distance would cost more than the $20 to packet8 with unlimited US calling. Anyway, this whole thing got me started thinking about VOIP a lot

After RC1 upgrade, temporary loss of voice
I just upgraded to RC1 from a two-three month old CVS , and noticed that during IAX2 calls to my service provider there are periods (usually less than 10 seconds long, minutes apart) during which the caller can not hear me, but I can hear the caller fine. Inter-office calls (SIP-to-SIP) does not appear to have this issue. Has any other users experienced this? Marcus Adolfsson TreoCentral

InfoWeek Article on VOIP
Here's t link: http://www.informationweek.com/story/showArticle.jhtml;jsessionid=JUEFVG ENEA01YQSNDBCCKH0CJUMEKJVN?articleID=165702588 The bottom line is that they compare retail VOIP providers like Comcast Cable, Time-Warner Cable, AT&T, Vonage, Packet8 et al. Their methodology seems sound. Their conclusion is that retail VOIP services don't yet match the PSTN for reliability &

VoIP dialtone?
Hi all, While pondering my choices for local dial tone service via a bunch of POTS lines or a T1, I began to wonder if perhaps there is another way. Are there VoIP dialtone providers? That is, could I use only my internet connection for voice calls and not have a separate T1/POTS bank for that? I guess I am imagining a company that gateways between the PTSN and the internet backbone.

Calibrating both RX and TX gain?
Hello! I'm having an echo problem with a TDM card. The TDM card is being fed by a channel bank just 12 or so feet away. When you put an analog handset on the line, both the RX and TX volume seem to be just fine. However, when I use the TDM card, I have to have an rxgain of 13.5, and even then, the audio is relatively quiet. I'm also getting echo on these lines, so I have turned

Stream Phone Call: Sound on Consule OSS to Helix server?
Hello, I am working on a project for a client of mine, that involves streaming an incoming phone call. I have a lot of experience with Linux, but something that I have never attempted is using sound under Linux, as all my machines have been servers. Here is the plan, is it doable? The client (a minor league baseball team) calls in to a iconnecthere.com phone number, and Asterisk answers (this

VoIP service through Asterisk?
Greetings. I did some digging with Google, the wiki, and on the archives, but didn't find a recent conclusive answer. If this is answered in the wiki or archives somewhere, please point me to it. I'm in the process of setting up an Asterisk box for home use. I've got a X100P card on the way. I've not decided what analog adapter(s) to get yet. The only phone service to hook up

BudgeTone NAT issues
Just for the record and to possibly help with others who get BudgeTone phones. My asterisk box is behind NAT, and I use Vonage, NuFone, and iconnecthere for my "POTS backhaul." On the front end I have an ATA186, a Digium TDM20, and now a BudgeTone 102. The BudgeTone definitely has issues wrt the RTP stream and NATting, although unfortunately I haven't yet been able to dig

reload not working
I upgraded to the latest CVS yesterday (and this morning again), and whenever I execute the reload command Asterisk seems to hang. While the current calls aren't dropped, no new calls can be made. The CLI isn't responding properly either. The only way to get going again is to exit the CLI and stop Asterisk and start again. Any comments? Thanks, Marcus

Can I interoperate with public PSTN gateways ?
Apologies if this is an FAQ, I wasn't able to find an answer googling: Will any of the public PSTN/VoIP gateway services (Vonage, Packet8 etc) interoperate with * ? I'd like to deploy a box which provides PBX service for analog handsets, and handles inbound/outbound calls via both analog PSTN lines, and, say Packet8 VoIP service. I understand that I can do this by connecting the analog
