syntax of nlme
Hello, How do I specify the formula and random effects without a startup object ? I thought it would be a mixture of nls and lme. after trying very hard, I ask for help on using nlme. Can someone hint me to some examples? I constructed a try using the example from nls: #variables are density, conc and Run #all works fine with nls DNase1 <- subset(DNase, Run == 1 ) fm2DNase1 <- nls(

plot each column of a matrix or dataframe versus x in a single plot
How do a plot several columns of a matrix at once in a single plot versus a single x-variable? The default plot.matrix or plot.dataframe commands plot each column versus each other column in several sub-plots. I want to plot each column versus a single other vector (x) as several lines or points in one plot. I can do it by hand: get the range of all variables (i.e. columns of the matrix or

lme, best model without convergence
Dear R-help list readers, I am fitting mixed models with the lme function of the nlme package. If I get convergence depends on how the method (ML/REM) and which (and how much) parameters will depend randomly on the cluster-variable. How get the bist fit without convergence? I set the parameters msVerbose and returnObject to TRUE: lmeControl(maxIter=50000, msMaxIter=200, tolerance=1e-4,

help with syntax of random formula
...using nlme version 3.1-86 on R 2.6.1 on Windows XP. Is it possible to fit such a model with nlme? What is the correct syntax? Do I need the exprep- variable or is it clear with the grouping that replicate=1 in experiment=1 is different from replicate=1 in other experiments!=1? Best regards Thomas Wutzler

general Gauss-Newton or support for NSUR: contemporaneously correlated non-linear models
Dear r-Help readers, 1) Is there support for NSUR in some R package yet? 2) Is there a general function of applying the Gauss-Newton or Marquard method, in which the function of calculating the partial derivatives can be specified by the user? Contemporaneously correlated non-linear models (NSUR) is a method to fit a system of non-linear equations. I want to use to fit several non-linear

nlme error on dimensions in multiplication
Hello R users, When trying to fit a nonlinear mixed model to a respiration time series, I get the following error message: Error in recalc.varFunc(object[[i]], conLin) : dims [product 30] do not match the length of object [34] In addition: Warning message: In conLin$Xy * varWeights(object) : longer object length is not a multiple of shorter object length Below is an example that generates

Thanks for help
Hello David and Spencer, thank you for your replies! The systemfit-package was exactly what I was looking for. The only little drawback is, that the nonlinear systemfit does not support predifined weights yet (in oder to ensure homegenity of variances when predictios are hetescedastic) Thanks also to Katharina, who mailed me offline and drew my attention to the nls and the nlm function. This
