Accessing printer from outside the domain
We need to give a user in another domain access to our printer:
our domain: OURDOM (samba)
other domain: OTHERDOM (AD?)
user's workstation: \\OTHERDOM\WKSTN, in other domain
printer: in our domain
user: JOEBLOW - an account in each domain with the same login/password
We're getting this error in wkstn.log:

Tape Drives
Is it possible to share a tape drive using Samba. I have a tape drive that is attached to a Solaris box, that I would like to use to backup my entire environment; Solaris and Windows. If this is possible, how should I configure the smb.conf file.
Thanks

Older Mac to SAMBA copy
I've built a new samba server to replace an aging Apple 9500 running 8.6
that is acting as a 'file server'. The other macs run 9.2 and 10.2, which
are the computers that will be served (I HOPE!) by the samba server.
I have installed DAVE in order to be able to copy the files over to the new
server. However, as the files copy, they disappear on the samba
server. Someone said it

Closing connections
My question is this: What would cause the PC to refuse connection from the
server on port 445 [I brief search shows a few posts elswhere indicating that
this port is used by win2k - is this correct?] and what should one do to correct
this issue (this is an NT wkstn)?
The printer itself is fine - other PCs print to it just fine [even from the
same application].
Would the port be blocked if a manditory profile has been assigned to the
user?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Windows Servers Spools but doesn't print
Wonder if anybody has insight to this issue? Trying to print from Linux
to an HP Officejet connected to a Windows 2000 Adv Srv box. The wkstn is
a fresh installation configured with Linux Suse 9.0 Professional, KDE,
CUPS and Samba. KDEPrint has the correct print driver for the printer.
File access to the windows server works great. Whether using KDEPrint
or SMBPrint line commands, we have the same following problem:

NT machines keep taking over my master browser
Hi all,
I have a machine running Samba (2.0.5a/Solaris 7) which is supposed to be the
master browser from my domain. It's been running fine for a couple of weeks.
But today it seems that some of the NT workstations are overriding it in
elections and are becoming the master browsers (and the Samba server is
giving up).
I've SIGKILL'ed the nmbd processes, but after they wake up they

Problems with force (user|group) and XP Professional?
Hi all,
In continuing of previous problems, I've noticed some potential problems
with force user / force group and Windows XP Professional.
I'm not exactly sure why or how, but it appears that XP picks up the fact
that it's being connected as the forced user (smbguest), and continues
trying to authenticate to other services/shares as that user (smbugest).
I'm not sure if this

Performance Problems
I've been introducing a local company to the benefits of Linux and Samba,
things have been going really well until I tried to provide some file
sharing for 3 people on the Lan.
Setup: RH 5.0 on a P5-133 running a small intranet with DHCP, file server,
and local / remote mail services
Samba 1.9.18 (not sure of patch level)
I setup a directory accessible by only 3 users and copied a 2.4Meg

Gentlemen/ladies, I've loaded Samba on my Solaris 8 server and have
encountered one problem. I can only access a share when I have the guest
ok = yes option in my smb.conf file. On my NT wkstn or 2000server I
receieve the error message "The account is not authorized to login from
this station" . I specify a valid unix account and password using the
Windows net use command. I makes no difference if I switch security
between user and share. Please help Thank You,Michelet
