Siemens Gigaset IP in USA (S685 IP in particular)
For some unfathomable reason, Siemens USA doesn't offer the Gigaset IP range in the U.S. I'm particularly interested in the Gigaset S685 IP. Since it's DECT 6.0, and there's an English (UK) version, I'm thinking it should work just fine, after dealing with the walwart issue (and maybe caller...

Backup Echo Suppression
...the preprocessor echo suppression is not designed specifically to counter the effects of data loss. On the other hand, as much as I might like to, I do not have the option to "fix that problem for real." The sad truth is that some end users have systems that may drop samples, or do other unfathomable things, no matter what I do. I can not rewrite their drivers, firmware, or operating system. My job is to do the best I can in a difficult situation. At this point, the echo canceller seems to work well on literally 90% of the machines I have tested. I am trying to put together a "backup&...

Fatal EEPROM fault!
...2.0025" is listed for 1U sized units. > This FW upgrade may fix the EEPROM fault too, but it's not yet confirmed. > Please update me if you go through this upgrade. I certainly will - but it's quite problematic as there are no Windows systems in the server room. It's a bit unfathomable that in 2017 a manufacturer doesn't fully support such critical functions from a 'nix box. Thanks much! Chris

Once again somewhat mystified with exclude rules
I go thru this every few mnths it seems. Rsyncs exclude rules are very sophisticated but because of that somewhat unfathomable at times. Simplified: I want to exclude directories named no_bak anywhere in the tree but only the files under them, not the direcrories themselves. My exclude rules look like: no_bak/* /no_bak/* The first one does catch directories by that name on the first level but this one flies right th...

[PATCH] Build: Make changelog action call git directly without Git module
The changelog action needs to checkout git2cl as a submodule. For some reason, when called through the Git module, command('submodule', 'update') was doing something unfathomable, and different to just calling 'git submodule update'. As Git is just a command line wrapper anyway, I've sidestepped this by just calling the command directly. --- Build.PL | 18 ++---------------- 1 files changed, 2 insertions(+), 16 deletions(-) diff --git a/Build.PL b/Build....

Unit testing
Recently, I''ve started to write unit tests for some of my scripts. In general,it''s no worse in JavaScript than in Ruby or Java. I didn''t have the courage to try Selenium, but had a look at JsUnit. Unfortunately, in Konqueror it produces unfathomable errors and in Firefox it is slow beyond imagination. Anyway, writing tests for functions that are computational or manipulate the DOM is no big deal. What I need is some inspiration how to automatically test code that interacts with the user (popups, drag & drop) or a server. Michael...

shorewall status
Hi I wonder if you can help... I have setup shorewall(2.2.3) under debian on a machine that has 4 network ports... the idea is that there is 1 WAN port, 1 DMZ port, and 2 LAN ports, 1 LAN port has static NAT setup for selected incoming connection from trusted sources, and the second LAN port I am trying to setup using masq NAT as it only requires outgoing connections, no incoming. the static NAT

I've got joy now -- X protocols working *BUT*
*BUT* for reasons that I find unfathomable, I have to have my xterm open for an hour or so before X applications work.
