fitting a logistic regression with mixed type of variables
Hi,
I am trying to fit a logistic regression using glm, but my explanatory
variables are of mixed type: some are numeric, some are ordinal, some are
categorical, say
If x1 is numeric, x2 is ordinal, x3 is categorical, is the following formula
OK?
*model <- glm(y~x1+x2+x3, family=binomial(link="logit"), na.action=na.pass)*

Hardware advice please?
I am quite new to Linux and have moved (almost) from a windoze
NT4 environment.
My present configuration is running SuSE V 8.0 with KDE3.0.5
desktop on two machines, connecting with Samba to an NT4 PC,
and an occasional laptop or other PC that connects locally to the
network.
After a deal of searching, researching, and seeking advice I have
decided to use Shorewall as my firewall.

new versions of grid and lattice
Hi
There are new versions of the grid and lattice packages on CRAN:
grid 0.2 and lattice 0.3-0
These packages are still _under development_ (they are in
CRAN/src/contrib/Devel)
There have been some bug fixes and, especially in lattice, there are lots of
new features.
Descriptions of the changes are included below.
If you have any grid code, it may break under the new version because of a

problem adding printer driver
Hi,
I am attempting to configure our samba server for print
driver download. The server itself was installed from
RedHat 7.3 and has been configured to used cups instead
of lpd/lprng. After studying the documentation on cups/samba,
I decided to try the Adobe driver install. I used the cupsaddsmb
program to perform the driver install, which works fine
except for the "rpcclient

1. when i try to map i have to use the ipaddress of the solaris box that
runs the samba. I can not use its hostname. It gives me error that it could
not find the host eventhough it is listed in lmhosts file in the NT
desktop. is it because the
"win server" is not specified yet in tghe smb.conf file..???.
2. how can i make the win95 users to be able to map solaris "dir1"?. windows
95 do not use encrypted passwords. But in the smb.conf "encrypted" is
enabled.
