Linux choices ?
...p (netflow, nic counters) - sshd - remote syslog - some kind of vpn (cipe for wireless ?) That''s my list of things I will be using. I am thinking about using the debian sarge tree, because I really like debian in the way it works (updating etc...). Maybe other distributions are more suiteable. I am willing to use a better/more suiteable distribution, that''s not an issue. The only issue that I have is fairly easy installation - not from source except if it is easy -(ie. gentoo is easy, LFS is not easy) Hoping that there are people on the list who have done such a project before...

what`s best memory - speed - pc for R?
...not want to split up the calculations. Additionally I would like to have it as fast as possible. Can R handle multi-core processors and can all standard operating systems handle the same amount of memory and speed? Perhaps someone could point me to a webshop that sales such equipment that is suiteable for fast R computation. pre-built images
Tru has already been building vmware images ( http://people.centos.org/tru/vmware/ ) for various roles. I was wondering if there was any interest in prebuilt Xen images as well ? And if so, what would be the roles people would want images done for, and what might be suiteable package sets to include for those roles. -- Karanbir Singh : http://www.karan.org/ : 2522219 at icq

[LLVMdev] Potential Google Summer of Code Applicant
...Edwards, potential GSoC applicant Hi Patrick, besides the open project pages of the LLVM itself [1], there are also the ideas list of the subprojects: - The clang open projects list [2] - The SAFECode open projects list [3] - The Polly todo list [4] As you already realized, not all of them are suiteable for summer of code, but some of them definitely are. A topic I personally would think might be an interesting summer of code project is a clang based gnu 'indent' replacement. Here the idea from the clang open projects page: "Use clang libraries to implement better versions of exi...

[LLVMdev] Potential Google Summer of Code Applicant
Hi, my name is Patrick Edwards, and I'm currently a CS major at Kent State University. I have always been interested in doing work with compilers and LLVM seems to be a perfect fit for me to learn more over the summer, and also contribute to open-source projects at the same time. However, while browsing through the project ideas, the only ideas I found accessible were the code reduction and

move from netatalk to samba + vfsfruit
since "ea = samba" was only added to very recent netatalk versions and so don't apply to files with a history of many years what is the way to go get rid of netatalk these days? is there still no tool to read/write the existing netatalk appladouble extended attributes which are *not* compatible with samba and write them back in the new format? afp.conf: appledouble = ea ea = samba

editing bind (DNS) configuration under CentOS 6
Hello listmates, It appears that system-config-bind has been phased out. Whatever the reasoning was behind that decision - what are we expected to do now? Edit it manually? That is doable, of course, but kind of cumbersome. Does anybody know if there is a tool we are expected to use for that purpose? Thanks. Boris.

LZO compression?
Hi, I don''t know if this has been discussed before, but have you thought about adding LZO compression to ZFS? One zfs-fuse user has provided a patch which implements LZO compression, and he claims better compression ratios *and* better speed than lzjb. The miniLZO library is licensed under the GPL, but the author specifically says that other licenses are available by request. Has this
