Slooooow Samba problem
Hi, I'm new to Linux (and therefore Samba), and I'm working on setting up a Linux machine to act as a simple file server for my home network. (I've got a couple of Windows NT/XP laptops that will need to connect to it.) So far, I've got it working by setting up a guest account and having my NT machines log in as the guest with the guest password. I've set guest ok = yes and

settings ACLs is slooooow
Hi, I need to set ACLs on a samba server, and are using icacls in Win7. It takes several hours to edit an ACL with inheritance, affecting a directory tree with 300,000 files. Server cpu > 70%, client cpu < 20%. Is there a way how I can speed this up? Using "setfattr -R" in Linux does it in approximately 2 minutes, but I want real Windows ACLs. There are 300.000 files in a

$$ is slooooow in IE
While $$ and getElementsByClassName are ridiculously speedy in Firefox (thanks to XPath), I''m finding both functions to be intolerably slow in IE. The page I''m working with has fewer than 1000 elements -- doesn''t seem THAT big -- and it''s still taking upwards of 4 seconds (!) to pick out the right ones. Are there documented problems with particular

compaq r4000 32 bit and 64 bit install
Gents, I first installed the 32 bit version (as you might have read) of centos 4.2, after downloading x86_64 the install process/progress is about the same. going VERY slow... The screen for formatting the partitions took a LONG time (3 partitions 10 GIG, 2 GIG swap and 50 GIG). While on that screen and moving the mouse it lagged big time and could not keep up. Anyway just reporting that so far

How to change the packet size
Hi, We observed the packet size used in asterisk is about 20 ms. We would like to know if is possible to change this value to 10 or 30 ms for example. If so, how could I change it? Thanks in advance and best regards __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com

flush-behind behaving synchronously
...sh behind and I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to lend some brain cells to help me see what I'm missing. I'm using glusterfs 2.0.1 on Debian/x86. I've got a "cluster/ replicate" volume replicated between two servers that are connected (over a VPN) over a slooooow (ADSL) link. Synchronous creation of large files over such a link is very slow, so I added the "performance/write-behind" layer with "option flush-behind on". When I write a file to the volume using cp I see the write()s returning implausibly quickly for the speed of t...
