Remove all spaces from a string so it can be used by assign()
Hi I have a string "56 Fe [1]" that I would like to use as a variable name by using "assign" however I think the spaces and brackets might be causing R some trouble. How can I change the string so that it just becomes 56Fe1 and can be used as a variable name. Thank You Kurt _________________________________________________________________ [[elided Hotmail spam]]

CRAN + geography = Cranography
In response to an earlier discussion about finding the fastest/best/nearest CRAN site, I geocoded (using my geonames package) the locations of the CRAN sites returned by getCRANmirrors. I've mapped them here: http://www.maths.lancs.ac.uk/~rowlings/R/Cranography/ The geocoding may have got it wrong, so if CRAN site maintainers want to send me a real lat-long (in WGS 84 aka EPSG:4326) I'll

OpenBSD TFTPD remap rules
...s fine. Now I want to distribute OpenBSD and WinPE. I've installed PXELinux 3.72 and configured it. Works also fine for PXELinux and distributing OpenBSD. To distribute WinPE I need a remap rule (\ -> /) for the TFTP-Daemon. I've created a file /etc/tftpd.remap with the following rule: rgG \\ / In /etc/inetd.conf the -m parameter is added: Tftp ... /usr/libexec/tftpd tftpd -m /etc/tftpd.remap -s /tftpboot Result: The TFTP-daemon dosen't start. I've checked the man pages and there is no -m paramter (like on Linux). Does the build-in TFTP-Dameon in OpenBSD has no feature for...

Network from package functions
Dear R-helpers, does anyone know of some package/function that can build a network from the functions that are implemented in a package, i.e. visualize the cross-references from one function to another in the same or some dependent package? An example would be a function like 'nls' on top of the hierarchy and then a network of nodes from the functions that are called within 'nls'

Using svSocket with data.table
Hi r-devel, svSocket is working well. Short demo here of using it with data.table : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvT8XThGA8o If you maximise and press the HD button it should be readable. There isn't any audio. However, svSocket is currently text based IPC using dump. Is there a solution which will do binary and work in the same way ? Its nice that I can make R become a server any

R's database capabilities
I admit that I've not done a thorough search on this topic, but from the several instructional manuals and/or tutorials I've looked at, I don't see any mention of relational database capabilities in R? Have I missed something, and if so, can someone point me in the right direction to get started? Thanks! Jim Bouldin, PhD Research Ecologist Department of Plant Sciences, UC Davis

Now I need to have some gui to wrap on top of the scripts, so that end-users can select their input files, adjust some parameters for processing, and select output folder or filenames. Please advice me if there is any tools or project suitable for

Dear All, I requiered your feedbacks about a web interface for R scripts. I already tested RGG ( but it's not web). and two of the CRAN list : Rserve & Rpad. However, Rpad requieres some knowledge in Javascript, php etc... and with Rserve I have to create a web interface entirely. Rwui from the cran list seems attractive. Did you ever test this one ? Other suggestions are welcome...
